To all my Friends and Family, As most of you know, I have been pursuing my passion for photography over the past few years. What began as some very basic attempts at sports photography, using a late model Nikon digital camera, turned into a much more in-depth photography experience. During my first photography class, I remember the instructor speaking about photo composition. It was then that I thought back about a trip to Hawaii. Our condo was perched on a cliff overlooking the ocean beneath us and every night people would gather on the cliff's edge to view the picturesque sunset that would set directly in front of our condo. As we sat in our chairs or on the grass, my brother would start rearranging our chairs so he could capture a photo with all of us in it and the sunset in the background. If it did not look right to him, he would move us or have us change our pose and again re-take the photo. At the time, I teased him about his Ansel Adams technique, but it wasn't until years later that I realized his compositional awareness. What I was attending class to learn, came naturally for my brother. Well, I did pass the class and then decided it was time to put what I learned to the test. Every chance I had I would grab my camera and go out to explore the world of photography. My goal was to take professional quality images of my son playing soccer. So every weekend you would find me out on the fields, camera in hand, practicing my technique. You see, shooting sports is much more detailed than just pressing the shutter button. Capturing a sharp image with proper exposure takes practice. Practice, Practice, Practice! I would spend countless hours on my laptop reading and gathering information on how to be a better photographer. Attending workshops and listening to professional sports photographers talk about their technique, the equipment they use and their workflow to process the images was all a huge learning experience for me. As time went on and the photographs kept compiling on my hard drive for nobody to see except me, I decided to research building a website. Yes, more time spent on my laptop reading about the different websites and trying to figure out which one would serve me best. I wanted the ability to display my images, yet have the control to password protect certain galleries that contained photos of my son's soccer team. You have to be careful with the photos you take of minors and how you display them since their are certain legal and safety issues. That was another class I took that opened my eyes about liability. Anyway, I finally found a great site, Zenfolio, and signed up for a quick trial so I could do some research and make sure the site was a good fit for me. I quickly decided it was exactly what I had been looking for and made it home for all my photos. So here I am, sharing my passion for photography with all of you.           www.jamesdohertyphotography.com
